A Vinnova-funded project building a Medical Product Passport platform for circular medical product ecosystems.
MedChain, in full “Standardized, Smart Lifecycle Management Platform for Circular Medical Product Ecosystems”, is a Swedish innovation project funded by Vinnova under the Advanced Digitalisation programme, running from November 2024 to October 2027 and coordinated by Chalmers Industriteknik.
The project develops a Medical Product Passport: a platform that carries lifecycle, traceability and sustainability data for medical products, using technologies such as IoT sensing, distributed ledgers and digital twins, so that manufacturers, healthcare providers, recyclers and regulators can operate a genuinely circular flow of medical equipment and materials. The Industry Commons Foundation is a consortium partner, contributing analysis of the traceability landscape and the interoperability requirements the passport has to meet.
