Wetlands is a short documentary about Aveiro, the Portuguese lagoon city where MTF ran three consecutive labs: a place whose culture, salt harvesting, seaweed gathering, the painted moliceiro boats, grew out of its wetlands, and whose wetlands are now threatened by the rising ocean and the fading of the traditional industries that maintained them.
Dubber directed the film, shot in late 2021 and released in April 2022. It was an official selection at more than fifteen festivals, won Best Short Documentary at the Paris Independent Film Festival and Best International Documentary at Portugal’s ART-TUR festival, and was used by Aveiro in its bid for European Capital of Culture 2027, which carried the city to the final four.
